Do you remember the times of watching soccer games bright and early on a Saturday morning, and that feeling you were left with when your team won? If it was a really good game, they would broadcast it and you and your chommies would sit around and listen to the radio. How about those times you’d watch Bafana Bafana, and how Doctor Khumalo and Neil Tovey made magic on the field?
“Laduuuuuma!” You’d jump and shout as another goal was scored.
These were the golden days before wives or children. When the most important thing in your life was that beauty you bought after years of saving. Your youth wasn’t too long ago and if you sit down and reminisce you can still remember that young boy, with stars in his eyes and pride in his chest after buying his first Datsun. If you really concentrate, you could still remember that new car smell. You were the man back in the day! Everyone from down the street would cheer as you drove past, wishing they were in the driver’s seat.
Remember that feeling you got as you started the engine? Every time would feel like the first time, sometimes you even had to pinch yourself to make sure you weren’t still dreaming about it. It couldn’t quite make it up the steep hills, but you would always help her along, talking to her like she was your closest friend. The seats were squeaky clean, and the dashboard was always shining.
When your friends would hitch a ride, you’d tell them to be extra careful and to dust off their feet before getting in. She was your pride and joy, your very first Datsun. The one you spent hours cleaning to make sure it was always in pristine condition, no dust in sight!
We want you to remember the old faithful, the reliable pal that never let you down. The one who carried all the memories of your 20s, and all your friends to the game and back. It’s the one that saw you grow into the man you are today. Datsun, it’s always been the one.
