Everyone loves a good road trip, especially in the beautiful country we live in. All you need is a good road trip playlist, some snacks and good company – the rest will take care of itself. And of course, no trip will be quite the same without the Datsun Go, where you can hop in and go. With the Datsun Go, you won’t need much convincing at all, but just in case you need some motivation, we’ve compiled a list of top five routes to go road tripping in with your Datsun Go.
1. The Panorama Route – Mpumalanga
Number one on our list is the beautiful Panorama Route, wildly famous for its dramatically beautiful
views. It boasts with indescribable fresh mountain scenery and panoramic views over the Klein
Drakensberg. A definite must is to stop at God’s Window and the Wonder View, although choosing
only one favourite view is near impossible. The most popular stretch of the route is the R532 that winds its way from the town of Sabie, through a generous selection of graceful waterfalls – the Sabie Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Mac-Mac Falls – to God’s Window.
Previous travellers have described this adventure as,
“allowing you to touch the clouds” and “the most beautiful place in the world.”
2. The Waterberg – Limpopo
Mountain peaks, rock formations and endless savannah plains, the Waterberg doesn’t require you to stray far off the beaten path to experience the unexplored north of Africa’s Eden, only a few hours drive from Johannesburg. The Waterberg meander is a 350-kilometre self-drive stretch of road, with most of the beautiful highlights along the way, making it perfect for any road-tripping family with a Datsun Go to cruise in.
3. Tiffendell – Eastern Cape
Looking for something truly different? Fancy making snow angels, skiing, snowboarding, snowball fights and cosy mountain chalets? Why not try South Africa’s very own ski resort, offering a unique snow-filled winter experience. Tiffendell Ski resort offers a year-round alpine resort and is the only ski resort in South Africa. Tiffendell is great for any family, offering lessons for beginners and copious amounts of snow, making it a great and unique family adventure not to be forgotten any time soon.
4. Route 62 – Western/Eastern Cape
Drive along one of South Africa’s iconic routes, stretching between Oudtshoorn and Cape Town, The Langkloof and Port Elizabeth. Route 62 offers a beautiful and scenic alternative option to the N2. Driving past mountains, farmlands, karoo, rivers and passes. This route is great for families who want to put the focus on the journey, rather than the destination, offering a huge variety of small towns and stops along the way.
5. The Garden Route – Western Cape
The Garden Route covers the coastal and forested stretch between Mossel Bay and Port Elizabeth. If
you’re thinking beach towns and coasts aren’t perfect for a winter trip – think again. The Garden route offers exquisite scenery, from full-on Wilderness to mountain cabins, waterfalls and yes – long stretches
of sandy beaches to look out at from a warm winter bungalow or chalet. The Garden route offers one of
the most diverse and activity-packed routes in South Africa, making you never want to reach the end.
