Do you remember the day you bought your first 1400 Datsun bakkie? Hesitant at first, you approached her with caution. Unaware of the friendship that would soon blossom. You would ride together on the open road, and enjoy the sweet sound of silence with a warm smile. You and your Datsun shared adventures, special moments and life lessons together. Your Datsun was there for your first A at university, your first job and your first weekend away with the boys.
Your first Datsun was even there when you took your crush out on your first date. Remember that girl who gave you butterflies, and made you lose all the right words to say? She was the one who looked at you with hearts in her eyes and thought you could do no wrong.
Fast-forward 30 years and that crush is now your wife. You might look a little different, and sound a little different. She probably gets annoyed from time to time when the dishes aren’t done, and you might not do as much for her as you used to. From time to time, you could be wondering where that 18-year- old boy with the brand-new Datsun is; who knew where he was going, and wouldn’t stop for anyone (except the girl, of course)?
That’s just the thing. Those years might seem like a distant memory, but the truth is, deep down that young man’s spirit is still there. Because true spirit never dies. And in the same way your spirit never left, the Datsun that carried so many precious milestones and moments with you, has always been around.
30 Years later and although much has changed, our camaraderie is one that outlasts a lifetime. Just like any great friendship, we can pick up right where we left off. Datsun has always been the one.
